Why this Salary Indicator?

The Labor Court of Brussels ruled in December 2023 that Deliveroo cannot give couriers work via p2p-status or self-employment, they must do so as employees. You can read here more about it.

Many couriers doubt what it would mean to become an employee, doubt strengthened by the misleading information by Deliveroo on the subject. This tool shows the differences between the different statuses, but especially the difference in terms of income. 

Because the first difference between the situation as a self-employed/P2P and as an employee, is that in the second case you are paid by the hour, according to the minimum scales in force, with indexation, and that certain non-working periods are paid (holidays, 13th month, salary security in case of illness, etc.). This increases and ensures a worker's income.

For years now, several lawsuits have been pending in many countries in Europe against meal courier platforms around the issue of false self-employment. For a courier to be self-employed, a courier must actually have the ability to organise himself independently, and to determine his working conditions himself (remuneration, choice of clients, conditions,...) which is currently not the case. As long as the working conditions do not evolve towards real conditions as self-employed, there is false self-employment.
